Tobal No. 1 is an eclectic mix of ethereal melodies and funky rhythms by some of Square's most talented composers, inventively arranged by Hata & Kalta (Studio Guido) and produced by Yasunori Mitsuda's masterful hand. Musical performances are fun, stylish and executed with great aplomb.

Song styles range from elegant rock too ultra funky jams with a little zaniness added for good measure. The idea to use multiple Square's composers is brilliant as it keeps the music fresh. Although it may take a few listening sessions to fully appreciate the depth of this uniquely innovative collection, it is well worth the time.

The only disappointment was the absence of any material written by Nobuo Uematsu, as it would have been great to hear Mr. Uematsu outside of the Final Fantasy World. You can't have every- thing.
